I drilled the vent holes (1/32nd as I recall) several years ago and have indeed noticed a difference. By the way, I covered mine with a small piece of Gore-tex repair tape to allow for breathability while prevent water seeping through that tiny hole. Seems to work.

Hi,

Thanks for that.

Good thought on the hatch covers. I've not done it yet, being a bit adverse to extra holes, but does seem pretty logical. New hatch covers are especially bad that way. Who knows, maybe one day I'll go crazy and get out the drill. ..

Some darn nice images there, Derrick. Thanks!

Do you have vent holes drilled in your bulkheads? Before I put them in my Explorer, we were crossing the sound one afternoon when my buddy pulled up next to me and said "Is that your hatch hissing?" When I stopped paddling I could hear it. I looked back and the cover was almost round, like someone shoved a black ball into my hatch.
"Would you mind de-pressurizing that back there?"
He barely got a finger under the lid when it just blew off. Sounded like a giant cork. I almost capsized, figured my boat had exploded.

Thomas
