’round here
Round here hey man got lots of time
Round here we’re never sent to bed early
And nobody makes us wait
Round here we stay up very, very, very, very late

As you can see Kayak Joe has taken my kayak across Lake Michigan and is paddling around the Ludington North Pierhead Light leaving me here to browse the web. I would have gone with him, but the conditions look a bit rough!Alex Pak added a whole bunch of Greenland style rolling clips to the Wisconsin Paddlers site. So I’d head on over there and watch Alex roll for awhile. Nice “Juice Box” roll by the way. Still waiting for that straight jacket!!
Meanwhile at the Southern Wisconsin Paddlers Forum, Russ posted a bunch of pictures from the day after Christmas paddle in Milwaukee. So be sure to check that out.
Oh, and in case you missed it yesterday, Thomas, who should know cabin fever is setting in was kind enough to share this. . .
“Fantastic paddle to Cape Lookout lighthouse on NC’s Outer Banks today. Very light wind, brilliant sunshine and we actually scored a ride with the tide both ways for once. Tested my new reverse sweep roll in the waves and swell. MUCH easier in buoyant salt water than in the pool. Saw the wild horses on Shackleford Banks for the first time in person, and very friendly (a little too friendly!) dolphins came nearly close enough to touch to the boat. I think they are much more chill when there is little boat traffic in the winter.”
So Mary and I feel we have no choice but to move into his basement!

I’m still waiting for that straitjacket roll myself! Believe me, when I hit that roll, EVERYONE will know. Even before that, I still have to get my elbow roll and forward finishing hand rolls much more consistent and also I need to learn them on my offside. Also those darn sculling rolls (under the hull and foredeck) need to be addressed at some point! Oh and I cant forget about getting my third end on my cartwheel or learning to bow stall more than 3 seconds… It should be a fun winter! What I love about working on the straitjacket roll is that everytime I attempt it, I know there is a possibility that I will hit the roll and the potential for that happy moment keeps me going. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for some luck at Lake Columbia.
You’re gonna be SOL looking for a basement around here, but we do have a large couch and these two big chairs you can push together. Wireless internet too, and free kayak parking out front. It’s 90 miles to the beach, but only 3 minutes from the Tar River which contrary to popular belief, will not kill you if you roll in it…as long as you have no open sores, that is…
I wonder if Lamar is going to host another symposium this spring?
Church Street Deli in Swansboro makes a superb pastrami sandwich…
Alex, I enjoyed your roll videos!

Hi Derrick,
I was wondering where all the hits on the southern WI paddlers forums were coming from today? Now I know- Thanks for the promotion!
They say if you want to get rich, hang around rich people. I think I’m going to start hanging around Alex, maybe some of those rolls will rub off on me.

Hope to see you on the water this weekend!
