Wow!! Congratulations to your wife!!!! It's funny, those who don't need to watch their weight don't understand the struggle, and those who should watch their weight but don't, often belittle your effort. It can be tough to keep on the straight-n-narrow! I can't even begin to tell you how proud I am of people who have a success with weight issues. It's a daily struggle and a truly amazing success if you can keep on it.

I think you're right about the weight training. In winter I'm just not lifting my barge enough!

Word. I second Bonnie's suggestion. XC skiing is great. Used to do it in CT. Unfortunately it's more gear you gotta buy, but you already have the roof racks.

When we found out my wife was "pre-diabetic" a couple years ago, on the doc's advice we slapped a 50-carb limit on meals and we both lost weight like magic. Breakfast is important I found out as well. She went from size 16 to size 6. Yay! (I'll never eat another spaghetti squash for dinner though. Don't ask. It was nasty...)

I like to make a big pot of vegetable soup and eat that for a week. Go easy on the crackers. And who'd a thunk it, but celery, carrots and sliced tomatoes now replace my evening binges on potato chips! Most of the time. Sometimes though, I just gotta have those chips, so I do, but get em in the small bag. Oh yeah, and plain old water and lots of it. And orange juice, the real kind. Cuts down on the Mountain Dew bill.

As for weight training, why you can just step around to whereever you keep those 'yaks and grab that old battlewagon of an Explorer by the coaming and do some curls! You can add liter bottles of water to the hatches as it gets easier. Shoot, by summer it'll practically levitate itself onto your roof.

Keep up the good work!

T

Hey Alex,

Yeah, I remember you saying that you had been through this too. What a pain. I take you're point about "sabotaging your own weight loss potential". I expect you are right about that. Something I have to watch.
