Sense of Premonition
Your so far away
Doesn’t anybody stay in one place anymore
It would be so fine to see your face at my door
And it doesn’t help to know you’re so far away… c.king
Someday I should really develop a sense of premonition. Well, I probably won’t, but I should. I should have known early this week when that whole tooth & ear pain thing started showing up. Suddenly I had an ear ache & tooth ache all at once! I was miserable. But I took it as just a normal painful infection which is my part of life’s burden. I didn’t see the message in it. It soon cleared up and I was back to daily life without thought. But it would’nt last. Mid-afternoon yesterday I suddenly had a fat lip! Right out of nowhere. A big fat swollen lip. What the heck!? I was just beginning to ponder the rational reason for it, when the phone rang. . .Now I know. The day my new Anas Acuta finally left the port on it’s way to Wisconsin karmic balance demanded I would suffer pain. My ear & teeth pushed searing pain into my skull. Then as it was unloaded into the lot at Rutabaga, again the gods would strike. This time with a big fat swollen lip! Fine. I know the need for karmic alignment. I’ve accepted it. The thing I can’t do is anticipate what I’m being punished for at the time. Frankly if I’d known the boat was coming it would have made the pain more bearable.
Someday I should really develop a sense of premonition. Well, I probably won’t, but I should. . .
I’m off to get the Acuta today. Damn, I hope they don’t pick on my fat lip!

Beware, that protestant feeling of guilt is killing you, Derrick. Enjoy that most beautiful of boats!
Yeah, what’s the deal with that!? I hyperventilated for 2 days over my Explorer too. But on the other hand the WW boat didn’t phase me. I think there is an anxiety line around $1200. Below it, no problem. . above it and I need an oxygen tank!
Then I have to worry about where to put it. . Luckily I’ve sold the yellow explorer and it goes to it’s new home next weekend.. . We’re sad to see it go really, but I’m sure it will be much loved over in Milwaukee. Let alone being free to ride the open seas much more often.
Then I have to worry about the Acuta getting along with my warhorse. I can imagine the old horse getting jealous of the new sleek female. Yeah, for some reason the Acuta is taking on a female persona. Probably some archaic form of sexism I haven’t fully eradicated yet. . . oh well, not like I’m going to achieve perfection in this life! I’m still attracted to nice curves and lines . . desmond morris moment again. . just can’t help it.
Then I have to worry about if the Acuta will like me!!!! What if I can’t live up to it’s expectations? What if I can’t balance brace or hand roll it?? Heck, it will sneak out of the house in the middle of the night and go live with Alex!
Wow. Yeah there is a lot of guilt and anxiety!! I’m not sure I have Protestant guilt. I read too much. (sign of poor social skills) I think I’ve found 1000 forms of guilt in 100 different typefaces! You’ll notice I mix my metaphors pretty freely.
I smell oranges.
It’s the shining again. I predict you are going to do just fine in the AA. You will find that the AA is going to make rolls and balance braces seem like cake. You will solidify your hand roll in this boat, and wonder why Nigel and Crew had to make it so difficult in the Explorer. Some kinda cruel British humor?

That’s funny!
I wanted to blame it on the explorer too, but then I had 3 different Ultra-kayakers tell me or show me how simple it was, (bb hand rolls, etc) even in the big ole explorer.. .
But to be fair they all said it’s not a great boat to first learn the stuff in.
Oh boy, shop opens in an hour. . .almost time to go!
yowza! have fun!
Hi Derrick!
Blame the pilgrim fathers! Your mood is so typically Dutch…
Don’t worry and just enjoy the most beautiful British kayak of all!
Good luck with the Anas Acuta
The Anas is most welcome to sneak over to my garage any time. The Anas rolls nicely and I think you’ll really enjoy it. While I still feel that the Explorer rolls as good as the Anas, the Anas is by far the better looking boat. We need pictures!
Hear, Hear! I concur. Pics from every angle!
