Power To The People, Right On!

Say you want a revolution
We better get on right away
Well you get on your feet
And out on the street

Singing power to the people
Power to the people
Power to the people
Power to the people, right on – lennon

Here’s something interesting. Well maybe to us bloggin types anyway. The BBC has an interesting article today called “Business bites the blogging bullet“. So they say we’ve got power. . . hmmmm. If that’s so, why then didn’t Motorola make my super phone yet?? ;)

For what it’s worth I think most of us kayak bloggers have chosen not to use our journals as a place to air our bad customer service or product issues. (Not like we don’t have them!!) I’m not sure if that’s a good or a bad thing. Just a fact of life. I think we’ve followed the lead of the magazines we’ve read long before there were “kayak blogs” who decided early on to always play nice. Or maybe we’re just too nice!! On the other hand as the sport grows and becomes more and more “commercial” there is probably room for a few “un-biased” reviews out there. What do you think?

Magazine’s hands are tied somewhat by advertising revenue. You run a nice media schedule, you get good press. Just how it works.

I think you bloggers should give as many un-biased, yet fair and informed reviews as possible. The manufacturers will listen up for the most part. Particularly with products that don’t require huge re-tooling costs or are not tiny niche markets, I think it could lead to some real improvements where possible. Smart companies are customer-focused and customer-driven. They pay attention. In word and deed. That formula works.

But it’s like having a billboard in the basement too, it’s a nice billboard but if no one sees it it does no good, so have to make sure manufacturing is seeing your reviews and comments/posts…response should be invited and discussion encouraged where possible.

When the super cell comes out, let me know, I would not mind having one of those either! : )
