70 degrees, no clouds

We left the music behind and the dance carried on
As we stole away to the seashore
And smelt the brine, felt the wind in our hair
And with sadness you paused, . .

After a bout of spring rain, it’s been nice to have the sun out again. The world is turning a blinding shade of green and everything is blooming. Even my blooming apple trees that don’t seem to want to do their job. I keep telling them if I wanted shade trees, I would have planted shade trees!! Oh well, the flowers in the spring are a bit of a payoff. I’ll let them live. But that plum tree on the other hand. . . .

You know, when I first emailed Wendy Killoran about writing about her circumnavigation of Newfoundland she asked, how I had come to hear about her, as she normally keeps a pretty low profile. Well her cover is blown!!!! I certainly wish her all the best. Wendy’s “Round The Rock” Blog is here. Oh, and Glen MacKay has one as well.

I spend a bunch of time talking about the symposiums I’m actually attending, but I don’t want to overlook GLSKS either. July 13-16 is the Great Lakes Sea Kayak Symposium in Grand Marais Michigan. Grand Marais is the oldest Great Lakes symposium and is held right along Lake Superior’s Pictured Rocks National Lake Shore. Originally the symposium was started by Stan Chladek the infamous owner of GroKayaks for so many years. There is a lot of sea kayaking history that spins around Stan, Gro & GLSKS. More than I could ever go into here, but I have a lot of respect for Stan and all he has done for Seakayaking in the Great Lakes. Now Grokayaks has new owners on the east coast and the symposium is also finding new paths. Exciting. This year their guests will be Nigel Foster, David Wells, & Mike Petzold. I was privileged to be asked to instruct, but being just four days after Door County, I just couldn’t fathom it. I do have to get home every now and again. :) But on the other hand, I’m going to spend that whole week feeling bad that I’m missing it! For more info Just visit their website.

Again, Good Luck Wendy. . . be nice to Freya. . .
