Coffee or Tea?

What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty or democracy? – Gandhi
Around the corner of every war is someone just trying to survive. Someone somewhere is keeping their head low while seeking clean water. Underneath a blown out window sill is a child in wide-eyed shock holding their ears against the sound of a firefight just feet away. Somewhere a helpless parent puts their arms around their daughter as if flesh will stop bullets. A baby crawls through broken glass to the lifeless dust covered body of it’s mother. Machetes swing wildly. No matter what we do each day we must remember this. It’s not ok. No label, no ideology, no flag, no religion, no injustice, no revenge, nothing makes this ok. You’d think we’d know that by now.

Some people can justify the horror they inflict on the innocent in the name of a cause. These people are mad. Every one of them.

Madness it is. And none of it makes any sense.

And that’s why I go kayaking; if only to escape from this, for a moment.

Derrick, just wondering…why this piece and why now? Something just trigger it?

I could’nt sleep. I sat at the computer. I thought, I’d read the news. Dumb decision. It sure seems like there is a lot of war about recently. All over the place. A nasty little one here, a nasty little one there. No signifigans in the date.

That’s why I go kayaking some days too. . It’s also why somedays, I linger before I return to shore.
