Making big decisions is sort of like going through a tunnel. After you decided to go through with it, you sit for awhile. You just stare at the possible futures and try to divine what’s hiding in the dark spots. At the moment your goal seems so far away. You’re focusing on the tunnel. It seems like the really big decisions, the ones with the biggest payoff, always begin with a little leap into the abyss. When I decided to slip my paddle in the water and cross through the tunnel above, I wasn’t worried I’d die in there. I was a little concerned I’d disturb a bat. :) Keeping a focus on your goal is what will save you in the beginning. Like when entering a tunnel, you’re goal will cast a little light into the darkness. You can fix your eye on it. If you keep moving the light gets brighter, you’re goal seems more achievable. In time you will break out into the light again. You will achieve that goal. Well, most of the time. Sometimes the clouds move in right when you’re in the tunnel and you’re lucky to find your way out again. . . and then what about those tunnels you can’t see all the way through, the really long ones?? Well, I put a boot up that one didn’t I!?

Thing is, you never can be sure what’s going to happen as a result of decisions in your life. One thing is sure though. If you don’t make them, change will still happen. You can fear the results of your decisions or fear the results of fate. It up to you. But at least if you make the choices, there’s a chance you’ll get something wonderful.
