The new TRAK Kayak is a shape shifter. What TRAK calls, “The worlds first adaptable kayak”. Meaning, you can actually change the rocker within just a few seconds so it will track straight and fast, adjust for conditions, or have a nimble boat that will turn on a dime. Cool idea. The photos don’t really do it justice. It’s worth heading over to their website to have a look at their video clip. Put simply the TRAK is a skin-on-Frame kayak with an adjustable keel. They use some very high-tec materials to guarantee their boat will be strong and light. You’ll cringe at the bit in the video where they paddle it up onto some rocks. Yikes!
Their first boat, The TRAK T-1600, is 16 ft long and about 23 inches wide. It comes in a nice froggy green or yellow. Assembled it weighs about 47lbs, packed it’s about 58lbs. The Price of this fancy craft is $5575.
As is the case with many new kayaks, it’s hard to get a chance to really get your butt in one and try it out. However, there are plans in the works to hopefully have TRAK at Canoecopia. We’ll see. One thing is sure, TRAK is certainly an innovative design, a rare find these days.

Derrick, you are the man! I was just looking at that ad again this morning thinking “I’ve gotta go to that website and see this kayak”–first time I tried to see it last issue of SK, the site didn’t come up, and I forgot.
The *Price* indeed!

I’ve had a look at this boat as well and wondered. It’s nice to see another choice in the bag boat field for those wishing to travel to wilder places. It’s getting harder to talk pilots into strapping boats onto their floats these days when heading out into the ‘bush’.
I agree the price is, well, high, isn’t it? I wonder if they are thinking of a non-adjustable and somewhat cheaper version?
“Mikey” feel free to post a straight review of the kayak if you like. Minus the first bit.
OK, just as soon as I finish this yucky cereal stuff… LOL
wrong mike,. I had to make an editorial deletion and was telling him he could repost. Not you though. But feel welcom e to post all you like.
No:) on this side of the keyboard but I am taking my toys and going home anyway.
While I too am skeptical of “New and improved”, this looks very interesting.
Looking forward to a review!
