So it seems a group of kayakers ran into a spot of trouble near the north stack off Anglesey on Saturday. According to the BBC four paddlers took a swim in the strong tidal currents. (read report) Details are sketchy but it seems one poor paddler lost his boat and was taken about two miles all the way to the south stack. That had to have been a scary ride! It was good to hear after the incident that Holyhead watch manager Andy Carroll had good things to say about the group saying “They were all well prepared and dressed for the conditions and reacted quickly and sensibly to the situation. That was a credit to them.” A nice change from the usual, “They shouldn’t have been out there” you normally hear.
Meanwhile just a few miles away our favorite kayaking wonder woman (and birthday girl) Justine Curgenven was exploring the Skerries along with Axel Schoevers & Clare Jones. One wonders why JC couldn’t have used her magic powers to fly over there and rescue the lot of them. Only thing is, they may have confused her tow rope for a golden lariat and started sharing their deepest secrets. . .
It’s good to hear everyone was ok.

Thanks for the report Derrick, and the link.
So, what did you send JC for her birthday? She is certainly a “dream woman”–kayaking on her birthday and supping whiskey and eating chocolates with kayaking friends! There are too few like her!!!!
Isn’t it funny the way us ‘uns here the U.S. combines something of a mania for adventure sports with a certain quickness to fall into a tsk-tsk nanny mentality?
speaking of rescues, d’ja hear about the “*cg” cell phone thing going away?
