Derrick,

if you are surfing a whitewater boat or surf boat in the surf, lose the stern rudder. It adds drag and is old, old school. Consult Bill Mattos' Kayak Surfing for a thorough discussion. Good book with many pretty pictures. Took me months to lose the habit and I won't be going back ; )

Cheers,

Rob G

Hey,

I have 'ABC's of the Surf Zone' as well. You know I should go back and review that one as well. It's been awhile since I watched it. Of course I'll have to be good since Wayne H is coming to Madison in the spring. . . .

Good review of the DVD, Derrick. I have both this one and 'ABC's of the Surf Zone'. After getting repeatedly dumped during my first ocean surf experiences last winter I remain fascinated with this thrilling aspect of the sport. And, of course, there's nothing like good instruction in actual conditions by qualified people.
BTW, the antidote to these videos is 'Alone Across Australia', John Muir's trek across one of the driest places in the world, just he and his dog. Highly recommended!
