Ok so I love this bio of Peter Graper from the Rutabaga Website; “Peter is too modest to write his own bio. So I’ll take a crack at it. Peter is the largest man in the shop. Peter is married to Kim. Peter obviously loves Kim. Peter loves paddling. Peter loves driving his Volkswagen. Peter loves baseball hats. Most of all Peter loves his grandfather, which is why he changed his last name to Graper so that his grandfather (who had a penchant for daughters) will have his name carry on in perpetuity. That’s very cool. “

Peter is also the guy who makes sure there are enough of us minions running around Canoecopia to get the deeds done. If it wasn’t for Peter all the poor vendors would have to set up displays and carry boats all by themselves and guys would have to make their wives carry load their new boats on the car!! But then on the other hand maybe without Peter no one would work the registers and we’d pay for our new gear on the honor system. Funny thing, I don’t know Peter very well. But one thing I’ve noticed; I’ve watched him manage all the questions staff and volunteers at Canoecopia toss at him. In a seeming flurry of confusion and questions coming from all directions he’s a guy who can handle it all with quiet charm. Although I did notice a slight eyebrow twitch once!!

So let’s take a moment to thank Peter for all his work for this year’s Canoecopia . .and for letting me get out of his Sunday schedule so I can go hang with Freya!

I’m told Peter’s taking a new turn in life selling something slightly bigger than kayaks. Cool, cool. Just remember, rolling kayaks is good, rolling cars. . . not so much. . .
