day on the river – video

note twisted to the max i’m
in the middle of a charming second
i’m in change with the tune of action
all i wanted was a little reaction

Still a nice warm sun shining in the window. Yesterday was our first tornado watch of the year. As it was though, we saw little but a tiny shower just as the sun went down. Both Saturday and Sunday, I and my older son Julian spent our days playing in the local river. Julian is just starting to take an interest in kayaking and although he’s run the river with me in much slower conditions, he’s not tried to practice boat control in the river at flood. For my part I’d never tried taking a sea kayak out into a rushing river either!
Interesting learning experience. I’ve found a few more things to work on, as did Julian. We also learned what it takes to break off the ends of a paddle. Good time though.

Did you make him drink the first beer out of his muddy boot?

  • derrick says:

tevas don’t hold beer very well!! Made for a nice boat chase though!!

    Fun video—Thanks!!! Justine has started something . . .

Julian learned not to lean up river, and then he actually pulled the boat up and over with that left hand — something we’ve all done at some point I’m sure.

What cameras were you using, on-land and on-water?

  • derrick says:

yeah, just got to push out those clips so Justine knows she has nothing to worry about from me LOL!!

Yeah, you can see that in the video. No brace, sunk the paddle which started the pull, then he reached out and pulled the boat over on himself. Yeah, we’ve all done it!!

On land was a canon sure shot. In water was a combo of my Optio & A Sony Handycam in a dive case. I just strapped it down on my deck with some bungies and then tied it so I would’nt lose it if I got trashed. :)

    Derrick,

Rain-ex windshield treatment on the lens of your housing will make you happy. NO droplets will stick. Also I have a nice suction mount for mine that you might like, can’t remember the name, don’t have it w/me right now, at work, get back to ya later
