Hadas Feldman & Tomer Sabag are getting really close to being ready to head off for Newfoundland. Their flight is booked for May 24th. She’s quite thankful that so many kind sponsors have come forward to help out with this great adventure. I’m told that Nigel Dennis has a nice new beautiful Black on Black Greenlander ready for her as well as a yellow and white Explorer. Nando Zucchi from Johnson Outdoors (who was just featured in Adventure Kayak by the way) has worked hard to get them all sorts of gear from Extra Sport and of course they will be using their most excellent Lendal Paddles along the way. One way they’ve saved time and money is to have much of their gear shipped to various places in the US, Canada, and Isreal. In fact their Lendal paddles are already in Newfoundland waiting. Suffice to say organizing a trip like this takes a lot of advance planning, time, money and help. It’s great that there are so many people who are happy to give their gear, time and effort to support them. Of course as Hadas points out sponsors are not there to pay for you to have the time of their life. They help but for their gain as well, in the end you have to put a lot of your own time and money into an expedition. She has certainly done that. Take that as a lesson if you are planning your own adventure. Sponsors get hundreds of requests. Don’t count on sponsorship. Plan to do it all yourself and if you are lucky enough to get a little help along the way, consider yourself blessed.Tomer has been practicing his kayak fishing skills and apparently the poor kid is stuck with the cooking duties as well. In addition he’s also the guy in charge of getting those bungies on the hatches, and setting up the first aid kit. . hmmm, Hadas must have the special assignment of trip entertainment and just looking fantastic. (you know I’m going to get it, for that one!!) Well, if that were all she was doing she’d certainly pull it off!! To stay up to date with the Newfoundland Expedition follow along here.
