A Brand New Day

Ok, after hours of work and a lot to learn along the way, KQuix gets a face lift. Now you will notice there are some major changes. The blog is now the “homepage”. It seemed to make sense since the majority of people visiting the site come to the blog first. The RSS feeds of course have changed. You can find the updated feed near the bottom of the column at the right. Suffice to say any links to pages within the site will need to be updated as well. Sorry ’bout that!

While you’re looking at the column, let’s note a couple new things. First there is a Youtube Video there which will change every so often just to give us something different to look at. LOL! The clip there now show’s you that somedays of rolling practice are better than others. Below the video you’ll see the content section. I know it does not look like much, but you’ll soon see that each link takes you to more pages of links and content that could keep you busy for hours. The rest is pretty self-explanatory. Take a moment to notice the new search and category sections. If there is anything about anything on this site, you certainly should be able to find it now. In the next few days I will be adding an immense photo archive along with more content from the old site and some new stuff as well. Finally the cooler weather is putting me in front of the computer again.

If you have any issues navigating the site please let me know. This is the first time I’ve worked with WordPress and I wouldn’t be surprised to find a few glitches here and there. Happy Friday!

    Thanks Geoff!

The new site looks fine, I look foreward to read your blog.

Congtrats. A few thoughts: The wider column reads like a news paper…a slower read. I found the faint lettering harder to read (my eye sight is excellent). Content: excellent as always. I like the words and it’s easy to dance to … I give it a 10

Very nice Derrick! I like it.

thanks guys. Good points Silbs. I’m not sure if I like the text quite so dim either. I might brighten that up. I know what you mean about the width, than one was just a compromise with the layout. It’ll teach me to write shorter posts maybe LOL!

Sorry about the comment moderation. I think i fixed that too. I don’t really want to approve comments. Hopefully, the little “reCatpcha” widget will keep the spam out. I don’t mind people telling me I suck, but I don’t want advertising for Cialis either. LOL!

  • Tucker says:

another vote for plain white lettering, it’s too dim

  • derrickquix says:

ok, I changed the font to something a bit more easy to read, lightened it, and made the columns a bit thinner. Hope this works. Design by democracy. LOL!

Looks fine. Might want the rss feeds at the top. and why is the accessibility widget at the bottom?

To analyze the color contrast download this http://juicystudio.com/article/colour-contrast-analyser-firefox-extension.php#downloadextension

pretty scientific for color analysis especially for content heavy sites.

    Hey Keith

Well, the RSS and the accessibility are both bulky, nasty, plug ins. So they are at the bottom until I can find better ones. :)

  • John Browning says:

    Nice, very NICE!!!

    You da man!!!!!

  • Thomas says:

    Hey Derrick, good going!

Personally I think the full white text is a bit glaring on black, but a bit more contrast wouldn’t hurt.
A bit of extra leading will help readability on the longer line lengths as much or more than contrast, and of course you might bump the font size up just a tad as well.

    Looks neat!

little IE 6 rendering bug – main content pops down below the bottom most point of the right side bar.

    looks good though.

Gee, Derrick, very nice! I suppose we’ll all have to switch over to WordPress now we’ve seen how smart looking it is. I’ve reserved ‘ckayaker’ just in case I get too envious… I also notice I’ve made the ‘friends’ front page! Thanks.

  • derrickquix says:

Hey Rich, think it’s time for an upgrade…. just get Firefox and you’ll be happier anyway LOL!

Michael I think you’d like it. It’s a lot of work to set up though, but you certainly don’t have to customize it as much as i did. Front page??? Now who did that?? LOL!

  • One more comment… Does Safari always crash when other people try loading this page, or is it just my version? Firefox works beautifully.

  • Greg Stamer says:

    Derrick,
Fantastic job. The new site looks great. I like the changes, especially that black-on-black waterdrop background!
