Dr. Who Paddling 2

New ways, New ways
I dream of wires
So I press ‘C’ for comfort
I dream of wires, the old days

Even Dr. Who was an avid paddler. Well, at least in 1978 while he was chasing a giant octopus called Krull. Each time I watch this episode I wonder about this “alien” boat. Is this some normal Brit boat? If so, what is is? Maybe they took some sort of boat and modified it to make it look just a bit more alien. Well, whatever it is, i found it a bit intriguing. Yeah, I’m a big fan of the Tom Baker years. Maybe it’s just nostalgia. Baker said recently, “all my stuff is the stuff of nostalgia. . . . When we watch television now, it’s mainly the living being entertained by the dead.”. If you saw my DVD collection you’d see how real that statement is around this house. I enjoy the new high energy doctor too, but have you noticed he seems to spend all his time hanging around London or Cardiff? I mean, if he’s not going to take advantage of that blue box to get the hell off this rock, maybe David Tennant should take up paddling as well.

My favorite ‘doctor’ was Tom Baker but I could never (or have never) made the transition to the other ‘doctors’. I saw documentary on the special effects used for the (old) series and it was creativity on a (one) shoe-string budget. This is probably what was in the budget. I don’t know this brand but this type of open craft I have seen in the Netherlands used as a roadside (neglected) flower basket… It is about the worst comment one can make about one’s personal sea kayak… But I would love to turn my sea kayak into a Tardis, bigger from the inside than the outside, mind boggling…

LOL! Yeah, there’s a town here that has about 15 current designs kayaks used as flowerpots. Of course i don’t dare comment on that! I was thinking about that idea of the kayak being bigger on the inside too, I just couldn’t come up with anything witty to say about it.

You know, when i was a teenager my friends and I used to make our own little scifi films with little super8 cameras. Shows like dr who, inspired us to come up with our own low budget effects and costumes. In some ways that was really inspiring to see shows like that and feel like you could try different things. Of course our films were not that good, but it was fun trying. :)
