Snow Note

snow storm

So here is what it’s looking like in central Wisconsin today. Snow is blowing everywhere.  The “Little house in the Big Field” is starting to get lost out there.  This is one of the reasons we have a Jeep. Each time it snows the driveway can drift anywhere from 3 feet on up. Then when the plow goes by we’re cooked.  Sometimes  it take hours to get shoveled out. Other times  the Jeep will just crawl right through.  Regardless of tonights snowstorm, I’m going to get some kayak time in at the local indoor pool.  Time once again to focus on rolling for the winter season.  In the summer I’d rather be going places, but in the winter with no where else to go. . . it’s time to become a rolling maniac.

Christmas Tree on Rack

Oh, and here’s just another great reason to have a Yakima rack system.  Hauling Christmas trees.

It’s starting to look a whole lot like Christmas around here too! Thats a good thing, if its going to be cold … it might as well snow.

  • Maybe take your winter vacation in Oz. It’s getting hot here as usual.Have a holiday in shorts, singlet and barefeet feasting on prawns and beer, sleeping in the shade and paddling in 26 degree water. Sorry. Just teasing.

Yeah, winter definitely is the time to get back to working on the flatwater stuff (rolling, flatwater playboating, etc.)

What are you working on these days as far as rolls go?

I’m in the same boat here in S.E. Michigan, most of the inland lakes have frozen up already, thank god for the Saint Clair River. I can’t do the pool thing, I tried it once with a local group, couldn’t break into thier click. The darkness of early winter seems to drive the point home that while I enjoy being a solo paddler it would be nice on occasion to have someone to paddle with. So in lue of the pool I’ve started back hitting the weight pile early this year (push ups are your best friend this winter!) . On the up side (or downside as far as global warming is concerned) I’m predicting a warm up for mid December in the mid west.
