still crazy after all these years

I met my old lover / On the street last night
She seemed so glad to see me / I just smiled
And we talked about some old times
And we drank ourselves some beers
Still crazy after all these years
- paul simon
Coming back to yesterday, I had a reason to be out on the water and it wasn’t a balance brace. What it was is a response to getting rusty, feeling old, tired and out of it. My hand rolls had been feeling rough, the tricks had been seeming more tricky. Yesterday was about finding my way back to Carnegie Hall. Reminding myself that after the last couple years of a kayak dominated life, I’d really been slacking. . phoning it in. Sometimes we need a break. Then maybe it starts to feel fun again. I had fun yesterday and that was the real accomplishment. At the end of a couple hours rolling and bracing I hopped up on my back deck as I’ve done a million times. Only, I felt stable again. I felt good. As Paul Simon once sang, “Still crazy after all these years.”
