In the world of Virtual Reality there is this concept about making the virtual world more real.  The idea says what is needed is an Octopus Butler.  A mechanism that jumps in quickly letting someone in a virtual reality suit hit something that is real, say putting somthing under their hand when they hit a virtual table.  Strange eh?

So I’m off to teach through the weekend and I was thinking about that Octopus Butler.  Sounds like a coaching technique.  The student who is completely new to paddling is in essance in a virtual world.  The coach’s job in some ways is to just stand aside and give them the occasional input to make it more real.   Yeah, I can find a metaphor in anything!!   See ya’ll Monday!
