jus chillin

Just a couple weeks back I was standing in warm water on a sunny beach. . . What the He*l Happened!? Winter storm & weather warnings continue around the mid-west today. It may not be safe to drive, but paddling isn’t so bad. Click Here For The Pictures.
Winter Weather Advisory

Darlings are you ready for the long winter’s fall?

You never know how these winter storm warnings will play out. The main storm may go south of us or with a bit of a change of mood it could hit us directly. Sounds like the folks along the Lake Michigan lakeshore may get the bigger hit. The nice thing is that on small inland lakes we don’t have to worry so much about “sea states”. So with that in mind it sounds like a good day to go paddle. Maybe we’ll get a bit of snow, maybe not. Could be an adventure!
ridiculous moments

We took it in turn to climb up on the ledge and hook our hands over the top, then work our way to the end of the wall avoiding the cold water below. At the end of the wall we leapt over to the sandy beach. Of course this was a ridiculous amount of effort just to keep our shoes dry. In fact all we needed to do was walk around the building instead. On the other hand it’s often those ridiculous moments that actually make life worth getting up for.
Inland Sea 2009

The Inland Sea Kayak Symposium returns for 2009, June 18-21, in Washburn, Wisconsin., on the world famous Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. Organizer extraordinaire Gale Green reports that Nigel Dennis will be returning as key note speaker. More news to follow later in the new year.
Just Deserts

Each year the ACA presents the Joe Pina Award to one or more local or Divisional volunteers for extraordinary service. Phil Rohrer of Two Rivers Wisconsin certainly qualified. In many ways he single handily supplied the energy and inspiration that has made the North East Wisconsin Sea Kayaker’s group what it is today. (I’m sure you may remember me telling the story of the legendary Current Design’s Flower pots of Two Rivers in the past!) It’s great to see Phil get some recognition. . . even if it’s not a “Golden Cleric“. Continue reading
Where it Comes From

Charlie Brown: Holidays always depress me.
Sally Brown: I know what you mean. I went down to buy a turkey tree and all they have are things for Christmas.
Charlie Brown: For Christmas? Already?
It’s 3am on Thanksgiving morning and of course I’m wide awake. It’s OK though, I’m getting over this blasted cold and the houseful this afternoon will keep the day busy.
Yesterday we went and picked up our Christmas Tree. Over the last few years we’ve decided that Thanksgiving evening was the time to decorate. One of many traditions we’ve frankly had to make up as we go. Continue reading

And now my bitter hands chafe beneath the clouds
Of what was everything.
Oh, the pictures have all been washed in black, tattooed everything…

I don’t know about you, but for me “Black Friday” is not a name that comes with positive connotations. I mean, when the market crashed in 1987 it was called “Black Monday” after all. The crash of 1929 was “Black Thursday”. Then of course there was the Black Plague in which took out between 30% to 60% of the population of Europe in the late 1300s. Continue reading →
