Thanks john,

It depends which one. The one at the top of this post I didn't do anything to. the others were shot on a very low light day because of the snow. So the camera was set at 800 iso and all the shots were very grainy . (depending on the light). (and not all that sharp either) So actually in color they were ugly shots. For the most part I followed the same path, desaturate, oversharpen, then add a cleaner grain to cover the bad natural grain. So really I didn't fiddle too much. I've sort of developed process I like with rough shots like that.

Back to photoshop! Did you desaturate the self portraits in this and the later post, and run them through one of the 'effects' filters? They look great!

OOh Michael, sounds like fun. Brrrrr! Tabar...noush cold!

Derek, there's something balanced... something right about having a Greenland stick in your hand with all that snow (and we'll pretend there's ice too as it'll soon be true) around you.

There's something so peaceful about paddling in falling snow.

I remember what that's like even though we don't get much snow out here on the west coast, i used to work as a sea kayak guide out east in my native province of Quebec in the gulf of the St-Lawrence, and the company i worked for offered winter day trips out to the ice flows to see the seal pups calving.

hacking through brash ice with your paddle at 20 below centigrade was an interesting experience!

after experiencing that for 2 winters in a row, ANYWHERE else is warm weather paddling to me!
