Cheap way to get some real nice images, I say!
While some of us will be delighted to have their images published I understand that some photographs have a lot of value.
A lot of people do not understand that just because a photographer was “lucky”‘ to be at the right place at the right time and “all he/she had to do was push the button” makes their images not valuable.
However that is something that promoters of this and other competition understand very well.
I only recently had a case where one of my images was misappropriated and despite explaining the presumably naive publisher (kayak manufacturer) that he breached copyright laws he insisted in saying that my image was “just a happy snap” that I took on a fun trip.
Needless to say that I pressed the point and compensation was demanded and awarded.
Moral to the story: photographers out there, great or not so great, you images are commercial commodities; treat them like that.
Yeah that’s good information. I’m surprised a magazine publisher would’nt know that “happy snap” doesn’t come into it, but there are some daft folks out there. On the other hand there are plenty of us out there who have one or two good pics and no idea or interest in how to sell them but might enjoy something like this.
