Christmas Quiz

Ok, so you have 3 days to conjure up a gift for the paddler in your family. Yeah, the fact that they are always out paddling means you often forget they exist. The problem is you only have ten bucks. (or about £7 or 7 Euros or 27 Shekels for those of you playing along in the Holy Land!) What quick cheap gift you do you get that paddling person in your life? A tube of Ben-Gay??
curvaceous eddies
It’s minus 22 Celsius at the moment. That’s how minus 7 Fahrenheit converts over for everyone else. Suffice to say it’s a tad chilly. The wind has been howling and a fairly regular 25mgh (or should I say 40 kph!?) which as you can see from the image above, is blowing the tiny scale-like needles of our red cedar trees off their branches and into the curvaceous eddies of the drifting snow. (For you English types out there, in this case “curvaceous” should not conjure up memories of “Nigella’s Christmas Kitchen“.)
On a side note I’ll be posting more images from the frozen yard and Christmas around the homestead on Facebook so as not to bore the “paddling only” types!!
Saturday Morning Dylan

Paddling & poetry often go together, at least in my crazy head. In paddling poetry is everywhere; In those moments you look up over a break wall to see dark clouds coming from beyond. When you hear a the whistle of a sudden wind against your ear that forces your eyes to scan all directions of the horizon. When a first drop of rain taps on your hull with the sound of a muted snare. When the surf captures you and you realize that you are suddenly without any control. When you find yourself upside down in a dark, airless, cold silence. When the VHF blurts unintelligible static into a moment of thick humid nothing. When the sun sets over a snow covered shore. These are just a few of the sensual moments of paddling that sometimes sing like poetry.
Search Out

Here’s a bit of trivia. When I go back and look at the website stats one thing I see are all the words people typed into search engines the results of which referred them here. With hundreds of posts over the years there’s lots of content out there. Usually though, I find most recent searches often relate to more recent posts. Anyway, here’s the list for the last month. The list is in order of times searched. As a side note, Yes, there is past post about fur lined bras if that’s what you were searching for! Continue reading
oh man that’s cold!
The only thing colder than the swim is the bit where the narrator refers to a “chilling” statistic about drowning deaths in cold water. . “chilling?”, Now THAT’S cold! Overlooking the bad wordplay this is an excellent video to share with your new-to-paddling friends and students who may not understand the real risks of cold water immersion.
hang in there. . .

I know what you’re asking yourself. You’re asking, “Where can I find a high quality Tuilik Hanger that will let my hood dry out properly?”. Yup, it’s one of life’s big questions surely. Well, the answer is called “The Skinny” and it’s made by Bug Head Tuiliks of Cambridge Massachusetts. Oh, and by the way they make Tuiliks as well. . . even ones with big scary spiders on ‘em!
