Global Warming Two-Step

Ok, so there are those that think global warming is man-made. The are those that think Global Warming is part of a natural cycle. Then of course there are those who think it’s all BS.

In fact, the din of voices screaming that Global Warming is just the figment of narcissistic environmentalists and whacked out scientists looking for fame is stronger than ever. On the other hand you’d hardly consider yourself balanced if you didn’t at least listen to both sides. Even if it’s bloody obvious that most of the dissenters are those who feel they have something to lose by acknowledging global warming as real. The problem as it’s always been in environmental issues, is simply that preservation of anything natural may impact someone’s pocket book. I mean who’d bother arguing over NOT to leave places like the Arctic alone if there wasn’t money to be made!? But the Arctic in particular poses a uniquely interesting two-step.

If global warming is real then we have a war on our hands. The US, Russia, Canada, Denmark and other countries can make quite a killing on the estimated 90 billion barrels of retrievable oil there (according to CNN) not to mention the natural gas. Of course if global warming is just part of a short cycle or not real at all it’s hardly worth the investment. Soon enough it will all become unrecoverable again. Yet, that’s not what the governments, shipping or oil companies are betting on. No, they are betting that global warming is real and the fight for their piece of the pie has only just begun.

Now I may be daft, but if they really believed that global warming was a fantasy, then why bother? Just asking.

Of course the irony is that the war will be about securing a supply of the very thing that’s killing us, like two smokers fighting over the last cigarette in the package. A sure sign that we are addicted.

  • The sooner we start saying ‘when’ instead of ‘if’, the sooner we get working in the new Green economy. I can’t wait to see what we’ll all be paddling in that new world! Did you know a guy in Australia ia already running a Green kayak manufacturing facility? Yup, all solar powered, and there’s more fun stuff in the works… Go green or go behind!

“I can’t wait to see what we’ll all be paddling in that new world!”

skin on frame’s made from found objects with animal skin clothing sounds about right seeing as everything we use to enjoy the outdoors is made of petro-based products!

sometimes you have to look to the past to discover the future.

for a great treatise on the subject, read the Jared Diamon book “Collapse”. A little myopic in sticking to his one viewpoint, but stellar work.
