Contents of the frozen stomach

Life is a one-way street, and if you could paint it
I’d draw myself going in the right direction
So I go all the way – like I really really know -
But the truth is I’m only guessin’
– gnarles barkley

We’re told the frozen contents of mammoth stomachs tell us much about the fauna and the climate of the world some 11,000 years ago. Well, as I write this it’s a chilly -19F and I figured I’d take a moment to run through the bowels of what I have sitting on my desk. . some kayaking, some life, and maybe some fish in a bucket. . .

shocked and appalled

It’s me, Dave. Wanna paddle?

Topix is this sort of community, newsy, aggregatey sort of place with pages full of topics about everything.  I noticed over on the kayak page they have this great little “Kayaking Poll”.  I for one am shocked and appalled. (we’re always “shocked and appalled” these days).  What makes them think that kayakers would have some special opinion about such things?!  Are they not aware that to an athlete the body is a temple?

No ifs, ands or. . .

Phil (the guy on the right) is a pleasant sort of chap.  I took this picture while I was roaming around in Wales a couple years back.  Couldn’t say I knew who Phil was back then.  Just this guy. . . in this shop. . . in Wales.  Yeah, well since then I’ve crossed paths with Phil a few times.  Phil is a multifaceted sort.  Many sides.  Like this one which I came across this morning. Man some things should wait until afternoon!

told ya so

With all the news about shark encounters around Australia recently, shark hunter Vic Hislop wants to get in a little “told ya so”.  If authorities only would have listened 10 years ago and let shark hunters wipe them out in the first place, there would’nt BE a shark problem.  Well, you can’t argue that logic.  Probably a safe bet he won’t be supporting PETA’s “Sea Kitten” project.

multidisiplinary coaching with hadas

Hadas Feldman, Israel

The thing about coaching is that great coaches have to be multi-disciplined. (Just ask the BCU) Now Hadas takes it to a whole new level by  offering straight up advice for those who have loved and lost.   I wonder if she will start a column?   Anyway head on over to Steve’s blog to hear Hadas say, “The best way to get over a man is. . . .”

Yes, Robin!

This is our friend Robin demonstrating the chubbilicious quality of her Tuilik.  A Tuilik for those uninitiated, is a bit of traditional paddling gear that keeps you warm and cozy while rolling around in cold water.  It also provides a lot of flotation which makes moves like a static brace almost a cake walk.  By the way, did she say “Toileek”???

Carolina lovin’

Wolf River (left branch), Fox River (right branch, connecting to Green Bay)

Wisconsin Gets some environmental love from North Carolina based American Whitewater.  AW has asked the government to review plans to build a new hydroelectric plant on the Fox river.  The concern is that the proposed plant could cut the flow of the main channel by 40 percent.

Of course padders are an irrelevant, crazy, helpless, hopless, selfish, minority who don’t listen to reason.  Well, at least that’s the impression you get reading the couple of comments on the local Post Crescent article.
