times they are a changin’
So here’s an interesting article in the New York Times showing how magazines are quickly losing advertisers as the new year begins. One has to wonder if this same trend will affect the paddling media and if so, with what repercussions? What do you think? Will all the mags survive 2009? Will companies advertise less? Sponsor less paddlers? What changes do you think we’ll see in the paddling industry this year?
Yom Huledet Same’ach!

Happy Birthday to our friend & paddler extraordinaire Hadas Feldman. Hadas is one of those rare individuals who truly can’t help but to light up any spot she happens to be standing in. Glad to know you Madam!
Happy Birthday To you! Happy Birthday To you! Happy Birthday To you! Happy Birthday To you! Happy Birthday To you! Happy Birthday To you! Happy Birthday To you! Happy Birthday To you! Happy Birthday To you! Happy Birthday To you!

No point in us remaining
We may as well go home

A news story out of Oregon makes a point that is always worth talking about. It seems a man was out paddling the other day, was caught in a current and swam. He lost his kayak, but luckily he made it shore. Now the problem came later. It seems his friends were expecting a phone call. The phone however was with still with his kayak.
Tasty!
The old Gray Mare She Ain’t What She Used To Be. .
So here’s a tasty tidbit. It seems there were some protests in Hawaii the other day over the practice of gassing fish. Well, after they’re dead of course. Well, after they’re really, really dead. In fact sometimes after they’ve gone off. It seems that if you “treat” dead fish with CO2 the meat keeps that nice fresh plump, red look. Sort of like the meat from your local big box store that has been injected with water to remain looking juicy.
Global Warming Two-Step

Ok, so there are those that think global warming is man-made. The are those that think Global Warming is part of a natural cycle. Then of course there are those who think it’s all BS.
delete the ghosts, keep the empties

And my traveling companions
Are ghosts and empty sockets
I’m looking at ghosts and empties
But I’ve reason to believe
We all will be received

The say that to some the sea is like a lover. Well, around here the water has pretty much turned into an Ice Queen. At least when it comes to the water, you’re free to find yourself another distraction until she decides to warm up again. Yikes!
I’m sure it doesn’t help my winter mood that I’ve decided to take these recent quiet days to try to sort through the thousands of photographs I’ve collected over the last 5 years or so.

The one good thing about winter, is that in the end you know it will go away! Well, barring a massive volcano eruption or asteroid collision anyway!
It’s not that I hate winter. . . oh, well, yes it is! I mean I used to not hate winter. Not to loathe winter. Not despise winter. No, there was a time when I only had a mild dislike. Winter was like an irritating co-worker. (Yeah, they’re a pain in the bum but you’ll go home soon.) But it was not more than a couple years into my new found paddling fixation that I actually crossed the horizon into hatred.
