Lonesome Road

openroad09And I have to admit
I don’t like it a bit
Being left here beside
this lonesome road
- Roger waters

Driving an endless country road on a dark, gloomy, rainy day can be depressing. It’s the sound of the rain nattering on the windows mixed with the feel of cold damp creeping in like ghostly fingers through old worn door gaskets. It’s whistling of the wind. It’s the subtle change of lighting as the clouds thicken and thin. All the while you look upon an endless road stretching out into a gray horizon. You want to be home.

Blue Man Kayak

I’m not sure I had anything to add other than I came across this ad in the March issue of NG Adventure Magazine. Oh, other than does’nt it look like the guy in back of the double has been in a kayak before and the blue man in front hasn’t… Oh, and I’d never thought of kayaking in Navada before either which I’m sure was the whole point of the ad. – www.TravelNavada.com/SL

Eastern Horizons in Perspective

easternhorizons-paddlecats

Bryan Smith & Lise-Anne Beyries’ new Eastern Horizons Sea Kayaking DVD is a slick, beautifully put together portrayal of the sea kayaking life along the east coast of North America. Well those days are past. The folks at Valley Sea Kayaks have a newly redesigned ergonomic seat that is removable with the turn of a few screws. Ben told me it was so comfortable that I’d never want to remove it… Maybe.  At least the new design makes it easier to accomplish if I did fancy taking the seat out.

Today we step over to the “Quixotic” side of things…

Arguing is simply the art of attaching personal emotion to non-emotional subjects in such a way to attain victory, but rarely a solution.

Healthier, fitter, less productive

march2309
March 23rd – Hitting the trail in high winds and heavy rain.

Paddling fitness does not mean winning an Iron Man contest.  It’s no secret that one of the reasons for sea kayaking’s popularity is that people can do it well into their graying years.  Still, if you are planning a trip of any duration you must act prudently.  Give yourself enough time to build up to it, train your body, build endurance, have a physical and all the rest. You don’t have to be a Greek god but you do need to be well, fit.  Here are some snaps from the last few days…
