The Meaning of Dreams

Live hand in hand, and together
We’ll stand on the threshold of a dream.

Oh, and speaking of “out there”. You know some people wanting to be dismissive of an idea will say to you, “Did that idea come to you in a dream?”. Funny. Of course many of mine do. They wake me up. It’s sort of a running joke around here that you’ll often find me up taking notes in the wee hours of the morning scribbling down some future plan or solution to a problem, or simply an outline for a blog post lest I lose it in the twilight between sleep and the new day. I don’t believe dreams are psychic. Simply that occasionally they weave all the ideas and information that we take in each day into a tapestry of something useful. Once in awhile I think your mind can find symmetry and relationships between items of information that our conscious mind would never consider putting together. In the end all these lotto balls of ideas are shaken up and poured out together as stories. Sometimes, the are crazy, sometimes they make sense, and occasionally they open your eyes.

This morning’s dream was a simply this. People playing volley ball. The story focused on a guy, (strange to me) who simply stepped in front of a child to return a ball back across the net. He stopped and apologized to the kid and decided to stop playing. In my dream I walked over and ask why he was quitting. It was not a major offence after all. He told me that it actually was. That when someone was too driven to win or succeed they often would become blind to those around them. Sometimes he said, it really was no big deal. However, when you invite children to play in an adult game they are there to have fun and to learn. As an adult he should have understood the situation, and if he couldn’t adapt and take on a teacher or mentors roll he shouldn’t play. I was about to tell him what a good thought that was, and tell him he was not going to get any better at being aware of others if he didn’t stay in the game but then I woke up.
