Just Arriving in Stavanger

jeffallen08-deadsea

Jeff Allen of Sea Kayaking Cornwall has just arrived in Stavanger, Norway, where he will be exploring the region and doing a presentation for the local kayak club before continuing on his Scandinavian paddling adventure.  You  may remember that last year that Jeff had barely kicked this little party off, when suddenly he had to return home after learning his house boat home had suffered a major fire.  Suffice to say things are back in order and he can continue with the trip.  Jeff expects to spend about 6 weeks paddling before SKC’s demands call him back.  A kayak shop after all is a harsh mistress!Jeff’s parter for this trip, Mark Schoon of Carpe Diem Kayaking in Bar Harbor, Maine, will be joining him in Norway on the 17th.  Mark would be there sooner if not for the fact that he was looking to attend Bryan Smith’s premire of Eastern Horizons at Canoecopia here in Wisconsin this weekend. By the way, I’ll have a short interview with Bryan tomarrow as well.

I’d like to call attention to the two charities Jeff is raising money for on this trip as well.  Please donate if you can.

Children’s Hospice South West
Children’s Hospice South West first welcomed families in 1995 to Little Bridge House, North Devon, and opened a second hospice, Charlton Farm near Bristol in April 2007. This instantly doubled its capacity from 200 to 400 families each year. Children’s Hospice South West operate the only two children’s hospices in the South West; they offer respite, relaxation, friendship and a sense of community. The hospice also shares the 24-hour care of sick children and supports families in bereavement. – DONATE NOW

Ovarian cancer action
Ovarian cancer action is the leading ovarian cancer charity in the UK. Ovarian cancer action funds research into ovarian cancer, raises awareness of the disease and gives a voice to women affected by it. Ovarian cancer kills 12 women a day in the UK, and survival rates are low at 30%, compared to 80% for breast cancer. We urgently need to raise £10million for the new Ovarian cancer action research centre, at Imperial College London – the UK’s first ever research facility entirely dedicated to ovarian cancer. Thanks to a large increase in research spending on breast cancer, survival rates have increased by over 20% in the last decade. Ovarian cancer action believes that, with the same input, we can make a similar impact on ovarian cancer. DONATE NOW
