Canoecopia Update – Bill Valentine

It ain’t no use to sit and wonder why, babe
It don’t matter, anyhow
An’ it ain’t no use to sit and wonder why, babe
If you don’t know by now

It’s no use to show you a picture of Bill Valentine.  Bill is simply a good guy who makes yokes for portaging canoes over the trails and through the swamps.  His booth is sort of  hidden on a back wall far removed from the Glam-Rock rad gear and sea kayak sections of the floor.  Yet walking on the way to somewhere else something caught my eye.

I looked over and found this amazing Greenland paddle.  Well, it’s not so much the paddle of course, but the painting.  Bill tells me he started painting greenland paddles when a friend asked him to make one to go with an antique SOF frame. The problem Bill has run into is that folks just don’t want to paddle with these beautiful creations.  So they put them on the wall and Bill makes some nice standard paddles they can use in the water.  Bill doesn’t have a website yet, but you can find him at Hidden River Yoke Shop in West Salem Wisconsin. Ph: 608-786-4660.
