Double D Video

Ok, so this is a video from Immersion Research showing you how easily you can put on one of their Double “D” Drysuits.   The truly valuable  bit is when he demonstrates how to zip it up.. or over as the case may be. I wish I could get that proficient and flexible!  Oh well. In case your wondering, the Double “D” from IR is listed on their website at  $830. What’s more, in addtion to Gunmetal Gray it also comes in the official color of kayak gear, “Mango”.

I just got one of these drysuits, and the zipper is not that bad to do up; a bit more fussing for me than on the film, but do-able for sure (I might add a short pull on the zip). It is very well made overall. What really stood out was the IR customer service. I am XXL sized, and wrote asking about sizing, layers, etc. Within 15 minutes the president of the company, John Weld, wrote back with a picture of their resident big guy trying on the suit and showing how much room there was! He responded as quickly to another couple of questions I had, and seemed honestly happy to help. Very rare in today’s retail industry. (FWIW I have no affiliation with IR)

My buddy John Fleming has one of these. Nice bit of gear and for the price who can argue.

I love my Double D! It has performed very well so far, and seems to breath well. The zipper has proven to be no big deal. I have wondered if it would be a problem if I became a tad hypothermic. I like Scott Fairty’s idea to attach a big hook to your rear view mirror, and use that to get the zipper started. I might try to rig that up, just in case.

BTW, I have nothing but praise for IR’s customer service and responsiveness.
