Here comes the super copter
Here comes the noise it makes
The demon was an idea
The demon is awake
– soul coughing

If you stare at the skies long enough you are bound to see something.  If you stare at a computer screen long enough you stop seeing anything.  I’m getting there.  My deadline for Scotland is not all that far off anymore…Just like the last time I planned a trip overseas time is starting to compress a bit.  It’s not the trip mind you, that’s the easy part. (Well almost, but let’s save that shall we!?)  In time you realize as more experienced paddlers once told me, that you simply can’t plan too much.  Regardless of what madness you conspire, reality will put your  “plan” in a potato sack and kicks the hell out of it. At the end you open the bag and realize your plans have become unrecognizable.  No, what becomes compressed and hyper-stressed are the demands of the “real” world.

Too many games that I can’t play
Too many windmills in my way
– jennings/kerr

If you do this whole blogger, social media thing long enough you begin to feel like your simply talking to friends and acquaintances.  You begin to see the same names and faces all the time in comments or on Twitter or whatever and you grow accustom to your circle. But that’s an illusion. The fact is you’ll never know who stops by.  So when I got a nice email from the vice president of Barbara Orbison Productions I was really surprised.

Of Wine & Running Shoes

karhu-shoes09She runs through the streets
With her eyes painted red
Under black belly of cloud in the rain

I worked at a winery for some years and I like to trail run. You wouldn’t think the two things have much in common would you?  Well, you would when you start shopping for wine or running shoes.  Both come with mystical explanations, amazing price variances, and not just a little snobbery. That being said, it’s hard to get straight answers when it comes to wine or running shoes.  You either have to have an honest friend who happens to be an expert, or you need John Cleese make a follow-up to his wine video called “Running Shoes for the Confused.”.
