A day in the life
I read the news today oh, boy
Four thousand holes in blackburn, lancashire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all

Beatles Trivia will tell you that the line from, “A Day in the life” quoted above was based on a 1967 article in the Daily Mail about potholes in the roads. Geologically potholes are holes worn into the rocks when pebbles or cobbles become drill bits in hard swirling currents often found at the bottom of eddies and in plunge pools at the bottom of water falls. The potholes pictured above are at the top of a 400 foot, stone, stair climb at Devil’s Lake State Park and were created over 10,000 years ago when the glaciers of the last great ice age stopped and melted right on this spot. These formations are a beautiful sight to see for those up to the climb. Oh man, now I got off track… I think I was going to say something about Facebook…
I hardly look at Facebook to be honest. I see the feeds in TweetDeck, and get messages in my email but I don’t actually go there very often. There are simply too many social streams vying for attention these days. I have a Facebook page and my blogs are automatically published to it. I think that’s just convenient for folks who spend more of their time in the Facebook realm. That is the way these days. We package up whatever it is we do and push, publish, and feed it out so readers can, “Have it your way.” as the old burger ad used to go. A good number of readers here use iGoogle or get feeds in other ways as well and never actually visit the website. It’s all convenient and pretty cool actually. One thing I have noticed though is that the discussion get’s a bit spread out. Sometimes folks have great comments or suggestions about certain things we talk about here and simply email me or post their thoughts on Facebook. The down side is that you often miss some great comments, thoughts or information that was simply passed along through a different channel. There’s got to be a better way to get everyone in the same room as it were. We’ve figured out how to get the posts fed out all over the place, now if we could just get all the comments to come together!
By the way, my Facebook page is http://www.facebook.com/dmayoleth… just don’t hope for quick responses!
