Don’t Get Personal!

This is Yalla. She’s not a bright girl but she’s vigilant in her vain attempts to understand. I read a study recently showing how certain breeds of dog can understand over 200 word and can process information in a similar way to a two and a half year old child. Older breeds are apparently smarter than newer ones. Border Collies, Poodles & German Shepherds rank the highest.. Yalla on the on other hand… Well, we love Yalla… Next….

For 2010 P&H Kayaks has a variety of new kayaks on the way including a new kids WW kayak, some new river runners and of course a few new sea kayaks. The new sea kayaks include the highly anticipated Aries 150 & 155, & the Corelite version called the Delphinus. They will also be introducing a couple new LV versions of the Cetus as well.

Each of the last two days I’ve spent time out on the trails around the local park. As much as I might want to deny it the coming death of summer is as clear as the sound of screeching brakes on a highway. The more stressed of the forest trees are beginning to turn, the heat of the sun can’t quite chase the chill out of the mid-day air, the days of rain are beginning to outnumber the days of sun. My Ipod is filling with indie rock once again. It’s that time of year. Oh yeah, and P&H has some new kayaks on the way… I think I have another post about that.. Now let’s see here… what drawer did I put that post in!??

A day in the life
I read the news today oh, boy
Four thousand holes in blackburn, lancashire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all
– beatles
Beatles Trivia will tell you that the line from, “A Day in the life” quoted above was based on a 1967 article in the Daily Mail about potholes in the roads. Geologically potholes are holes worn into the rocks when pebbles or cobbles become drill bits in hard swirling currents often found at the bottom of eddies and in plunge pools at the bottom of water falls. The potholes pictured above are at the top of a 400 foot, stone, stair climb at Devil’s Lake State Park and were created over 10,000 years ago when the glaciers of the last great ice age stopped and melted right on this spot. These formations are a beautiful sight to see for those up to the climb. Oh man, now I got off track… I think I was going to say something about Facebook…

I hate nylon kayak skirts. Oh, I get them. I understand why we would use them. When it’s 107F in the shade I’d be tempted to use one myself. Tempted yes, but the temptation would pass. I had to rescue a guy in a nylon skirt once. Well, I should say, he said he had a skirt. But once I had him sitting back in his kayak on a cold December day when Lake Michigan was feeling a bit b*tchy in the 6-8 ft range, there was nothing like a skirt to be found anywhere around him. But hey, it was nylon and really super comfortable! Of course that’s when the fun really got started…
