I spend a good amount of time in the absence of others. It starts in the morning when for whatever reason I’m usually awake and chomping at the bit to get on with my day by 5am, sometimes earlier. The dogs will come join me around 6am, the rest of the house.. 7, or 8am. Sometimes… like yesterday for instance, I’ll head out of doors as soon as the sun comes up and putter around our tiny 3/4 an acre yard. I’ll weed gardens while the leaves are still wet with morning dew, prune a tree branch I keep seeing in the more active part of the day when I’m in the middle of doing something else, or maybe just stroll around with my coffee in one hand and my camera in the other..

So yesterday I spent half my day talking to an insurance agent. I know that sounds like a complaint and to be sure, there’s plenty of things I’d rather be doing. A root canal comes to mind… On the other hand, I’m happy to know that if my Alaw Bach flies off my Jeep, sinks in Lake Michigan, or goes up in flames.. it’s covered. It’s even covered against theft. My fear of course is that it would be stolen one piece at a time…

Oh man.. While we here in the great white north try to squeeze in a few more day paddles before the snow flies and the water freezes, some shops are already contemplating next year’s orders and manufacturers are crossing the ‘t’s on their new kayaks and kit! It’s just the way of things. How many days until Christmas?

Some people would never plant fruit trees in their yard because they hate the mess. For a couple weeks a year I totally get their point.
Today is the first day of school in this part of the world. The news is raging about a predicted up-swing in Swine Flu cases, hospitalizations and deaths because everyone is sending their kids to school, while reminding everyone to send their kids to school. Ah…?
