Unification Theory
Baraboo Interactive Services is now Skillet Creek Media.
When I started my business in 1996 I really had no idea what I was doing. I was just asked to build websites for a couple folks who heard I knew how. Well, sort of. I mean I bought a cheap Packard Bell computer at Wal-Mart because even though we were very poor then, I didn’t want my kids to fall behind the future that I thought was coming. Of course what I ended up using that first computer for was drawing pictures, editing photographs and generally learning to make things. Along the way, I learned HTML, later Flash, and so on… Over a dozen years later I’m still just doing whatever I do. Only now am I really starting to see a theme. At 44 it’s about time, eh!?
These days I’m running state park & other tourism website along with my clients sites. Many of my clients are outdoor related businesses and interestingly enough, artists of one talent or another. In addition the web is changing fast. Folks can’t just put up a website and do all that search engine magic and expect business. These days social media is an integral part of the mix as well. Oddly we’ve come full circle. It used to be that it was hard to convince someone why they needed a website. The concept seemed foreign. These days it’s obvious. Now we’re doing it all over with social media. Tech heads are once again playing evangelist to businesses who are getting beat at the post by competition who see the future and are already on there way.
Keeping that all in mind, along with my own interest in video and photography, my freelance work, and all the rest I realized that my 1990′s business was so “Last decade”. In fact, just looking at a business card felt like putting on a pair of corduroy, high-water pants! I was having a mid-business-life crisis. I needed a make-over and serious re-branding. Not to mention needing to bring some new intellect to the mix.
Now I’m not going to go too deeply into all that here other than to say, that recently I’ve not been on the water or in the kayaking mindset simply because I’m diving down a muddy track into a torrent of life change. We have to do that sometimes. So.. YOU are the first to know that the old regime is dead and Skillet Creek Media… Stay tuned..
Funny thing too. Yesterday I received a phone call from the local Kiwanis club asking if I would do a presentation bringing my outdoor life and business together. I was tempted to tell them I was just trying to figure that out myself recently… go figure!
BTW – As a reward for making it to the bottom of this page… Let me share with you some autumn photos.. I just published a gallery to this page about Durward’s Glen Retreat.. Just scroll down a bit to get to the pictures.
