I’m finally making my photography available for purchase. It certainly took me long enough!
The camera is like an uneven path in a Japanese garden. It forces you to slow down and pay attention to the world around you. Photography is a gift you give yourself. You need not sell or even display your work to benefit. Most of the pictures I take ultimately are deleted or thrown away and still I have pleasant memories of those moments, even when nothing caught in the camera turned out. Still, if you click the shutter enough you are bound to have a few successes.
Over the years I’ve had shots published in a variety of magazines, commercial, marketing & travel materials. My images have littered phone book covers, maps, cheesey fliers and more. I’ve photographed toilets and showers, tables, and modular flooring and every so often something nice too. As you know my websites are always illustrated with images from my travels, hikes and random romps. Occasionally something good has to sneak in.
Over the years I’ve been asked many, many times where someone can buy this pic or that but I’ve never really focused on it before. So many people take themselves so seriously as “Photographers” that I couldn’t really bring myself to sit at their table. There is a big part of me that feels like we are so inundated with imagery these days that nothing I can do is worth adding to the beautiful noise.
On the other hand…the business hand… there is a niche. The demand for images from our local state park is pretty strong. I’ve been asked for prints of certain seascapes or travel images as well. Still my time is so limited these days and I don’t see that changing any time soon.
With all that said here is what I’ve done. I did some research and with the help of a Twitter friend was pointed to a service that offers only high quality prints, mat cutting & framing, handles the sales, and offers 30 days, no questions asked refunds. That’s what I’d do if I were doing it myself. I’ve signed up and begun the ongoing task of selecting images I hope are worth printing. As I find the time I will add to the galleries. I’ll certainly be adding a sea kayaking gallery in time. If you’d like to have a look around just click here to visit the new Skillet Creek Gallery Store. “Nothing ventured..”

you have some beautiful photos, Derrick! Good luck with the sales.
There’s one cheeky shot in there that just about fits into the category!!!
Happy Christmas!
Derrick:
I’ve always thought you had a great eye for photographs. I wish I had your eye. Not to say you should shut up, but you could almost do just a photoblog with no words for kicks and giggles.

Gorgeous shots, Derrick! However, as much as I love them, I want your sectional Rockpool more!!! When you going to tire of that boat!???
