Getting Ready

Before the day I met you, life was so unkind
But you’re the key to my peace of mind

You know how it is of course. Time keeps sliding past while your busy with other pursuits. Well, sometimes you’ve got to focus. Canoecopia, the largest paddlesports show in the country kicks off in 9 days and I need to be there. In addition to my regular duties, I, along with Steve Scherrer am giving a rolling demo on Sunday afternoon. Now, the thing is.. I always get pinned as the “Greenland” guy here in this part of the state. That’s not really my thing though. I love rolling. But I’m not all that talented. I’ve spent years learning to roll primarily because I was never a good swimmer. Rolling builds confidence and improves boat control. Greenland rolling simply makes you a better roller, even if you never actually become a “Greenland” paddler. I hope that’s the message I can get across at Canoecopia. It’s not about being this thing or that. It’s not about being great or hot dogging. It’s simply about feeling safe and confident on the water while you explore our wonderful planet. Rolling gives you the confidence to do just that.

Sounds good to me Derrick. That’s the same thing I tell my whitewater students when they ask me why I practice so many strange rolls. I’m sure you’ll do great.
Some are born great, some achieve greatness, some have Greenland thrust upon ‘em. I think you’re more skilled than you think you are. And you’re not a guru, which gives you extra points in my book.
LOL! That’s funny..
