Check in

I’d love to get a letter / Like to know what’s what
Hope the weather’s good / And it’s not too hot
For you
Everyone says hi – bowie
Just a moment to check in with everyone that’s been following along here at KayakQuixotica.com for some years now. Yeah, I’m still alive! How about you?? LOL! For my part, I’ve been paddling daily again for a while now. I just keep the silly kayak on the Jeep at all times so I can quickly jump in the water over lunch or right after I drop my son off to school. I recently did a wilderness first aid course and am spending Memorial weekend in Milwaukee doing an ACA ICE with my friend JB. It looks like great weather for a paddle and s**t weather for L4 certification.
Regarding paddling Scotland.. Oh man. Yeah, I want to and have the trip forefront in my mind. However some family heath issues have really forced me to stay close to home for more than a few days at a time over the last year or so. No sense in detailing it, but if I can reasonably find a way to escape for a few weeks without having to fret .. I’d take it. I’d give anything for a bit of ‘me’ time at the moment…
Off the water I’m trying to trail run on my wounded ankle. Right now I’ve been running in hiking boots which are a bit heavy but do offer some support for my ankle. Ankle injuries are a B**ch for anyone let alone if you like to run on rock strewn mountain bike trails. (A daft proposition no matter how you look at it.) My doctor was very clear that I could run again but that I must brace the ankle. Thing is, trail running puts a lot of focus on the ability to shift weight quickly and your ankles do much of the work. Because of this, running shoes and useful braces are simply not out there to offer a level of support if you wish to trail run and have weak ankles or are recovering from an injury such as I am. It’s certainly possible to run trails with ankle support when necessary, we simply need the right shoe design to accommodate it. I’ll have more to say on that soon.
I’ve also been spending a lot more time on my Trek as well. There’s nothing like blasting down an open trail and hoping you won’t miss a rock and face plant into a tree!
Business is good. My web development, design, hosting, SM marketing, outdoor tourism, consulting, photography, and general kitchen sink ventures have been weathering the economy quite well. Too well, some days actually.
I’m way busy, but I don’t own a BMW yet. Most of the time I’m told by peers to raise rates and go for bigger fish. Thing is, I like like working with small companies and real people. Yeah, you don’t get financially rich.. but there are many forms of riches…
With the paddling season on again, I’ll be posting here more often again but not daily like I have in the past. One place you will see me posting not just daily, but constantly is on my local Skillet Creek Facebook page & Twitter accounts. They are mostly local, outdoor & environmental.. with occasional weirdnesses just you’d probably expect.
Anyway, I thought I’d step out from behind the curtain for a moment… Hope you are well.
