September ’75 I was 47 inches high
Mom said someday I would have
A bad ass mother G.I. Joe

“Wow, those are some impressive numbers Greg.” “Yes, they are Marve. Now let’s see what the judge from Denmark has to say.” - So here’s the thing.  I’ve been pissing a lot of folks off recently. I even pissed off the manager of the local homeless shelter! Unusual for me, really.  But I’ve been told if you are not making someone mad, you’re hiding.  I get that…

Marcus Demuth, Windscreen.

sometimes you’re the windshield / sometimes you’re the bug
sometimes it all comes together baby / sometimes you’re a fool in love
sometimes you’re the louisville slugger / sometimes you’re the ball
sometimes it all comes together baby… – Dire Straits

I‘ve written about Marcus Demuth before.  More than many expedition paddlers out there he’s had his share of ups and downs. Yet  no matter what happens, it seems he’s right there ready to give things another go as well.  So even though he kept things a bit quiet this time around, he still went out and did something few people have ever done.  He paddled solo around Great Britain.   Continue reading

Back Support

Over the last couple days I took a bit of time to fashion out a new back support for my the Romany I’ve been working on recently. You may remember I was just about ready to give it away.  Well, after repairing a hole & going after all the weird grey gelcoat patches, and now adding a nice comfortable back support it’s starting to turn into a boat worth owning.  Continue reading

Chicken & Egg

My neighbor… wants what he sees
My neighbor!! My neighbor!!
My neighbor… thinks he wants to be me
But he’ll never be – gnarls barkley

When I recently wrote a quick overview of SeakayakingUK’s Romany, someone (who shall remain nameless to protect the innocent) shared with me the thought that the Romany was at least in part based the Shore Line kayak produced by another UK company called North Shore.  North Shore was founded in 1982. According to informants, the Shore Line (Now the Atlantic LV) was in production pre-Romany.  Continue reading

Sabino Trail Mid GTX by Montrail

That’s beautiful daddy! – beck

I’m a trail runner. After an ankle injury early in the season the doc said that I needed to find trail shoes with ankle support.  Right!  Well, with a bit of help for the folks at Pemba Serves I’ve had the opportunity to put a pair of Sabino Trail Mids by Montrail to the test.  2 month on, and I have to say,  the Sabino Trail Mids were just what the doctor ordered, and then some.   Continue reading

Nap

Please don’t spoil my day
I’m miles away
And after all
I’m only sleeping
-beatles

It’s Saturday and time for a nap.  Next week I’ll be reviewing some running shoes and maybe tell you a bit about this new impact low kayak roll I’ve been working on.   Btw, this is another silly balance game for those of you new to paddling.  Just sit on the back deck of your kayak, then lay down.  At first you can leave your legs down and in the cockpit.  This gets more challenging the more wavy the water is.  When you feel confident, bring one leg in, putting your foot on the seat of your kayak.. See how just having that knee up changes the balance?  How about both knees up?  Create your own challenges, and just play.  In time these little games will seem like, well, child’s play.  See you Monday!
