This year my local state park is celebrating their 100th anniversary. Devil’s Lake is where I’ve  worked, exercised off 100 lbs, and learned to pass my kayak coaching exams.. It’s also the place I go to find my inner peace.  One of the centennial events is encouraging folks to get out and hike, bike, run, ski, or whatever 100 miles in 2011 It’s called the Hike 100 Club.  Now any dyed-in-the-drysuit paddler will be agast!  What? P&H Kayaks has a cool new kayak customizer that let’s you create the P&H kayak of your dreams.. That is of course, IF P&H is the kayak of your dreams. :)    As you can see above, I’m still fantasizing about a very low volume white and grey beast myself. :)   Now we’ve all seen color changers and customizers of one sort or another over the last few years, but I have to say, P&H has done a pretty decent job.  You can select any boat in their fleet, even the plastic versions, then work your way through every available option along a step-by-step process.  There are a LOT of options. Our friends Justine & Barry, or as they are officially called “Expedition Paddlers, Justine Curgenven and Barry Shaw” have arrived in Punta Arenas. As you can see in the license plate above, Punta Arenas is in Chile.  Cool.  Justine and Barry are preparing to circumnavigate Tierra del Fuego by sea kayak… that is.. when their sea kayaks actually arrive.. but that’s another story!  Tierra del Fuego is an archipelago (or island group) that makes up the southern tip of  South America.  Continue reading
