And I’ll drink and dance with one hand free
Let the world back into me
And on I’ll be a sight to see
Back in the high life again

Of all the symposiums I’ve been to, the West Michigan Coastal Kayaker’s Association symposium on Memorial Day weekend is certainly one of the best. It’s always an interesting mix where top level coaches come and work with beginner paddlers on a calm warm little inland lake. Frankly there is not a better symposium that I’ve attended for those of you new to sea kayaking. Better still, the event manages to be perfectly suited for families as well and offers a nice selection of classes and entertainment to keep the kids busy. At the same time there are plenty of opportunities for intermediate and traditional paddlers to brush up on their skills as well.

The morning of the last day is finally here. "All good things. . . " as they say. The Show hours are 10am to 5pm.
It was hard this year to come up with the real stand out product. Of course the star of the show is always the big discount! Valley brought a single Anas Acuta with the new keyhole cockpit and it sold almost instantly. I think there will be a good market for them. Still the innovation these days is not really coming in the world of sea kayaking. We have to accept that "old sea dogs" are not where the market is going. Fishing and the ever popular recreational boaters are getting the attention. Big stands by Hobie and others drew big crowds with their peddle boats, fishing gear and video screens.

This Dubside Moment Brought To You By Nyquil . . .
Bryan Smith’s big bash is going on right now as he shows off Pacific Horizons in Madison. I came home early in a last attempt to shake off this freaking cold. But before I go wrap up under a few blankets here’s a few more moments from the Saturday Pool Sessions at Canoecopia. . .

Karen Knight’s Free Style Demo was truly Amazing - Can’t wait to share more pics in a couple days!

Every so often Ben Lawry Must Be Drained. Ben demonstrates C2C & Sweep Rolls

It’s a "W" thing. . What, Where, Who, Wow, Wisconsin, Werner, Wolling Wendy!

Answer: Dubside, A Candle & A Brick. What’s the question?

There’s a lot of social time friday afternoon as people start lining up at 3pm for the 4pm opening.
I just went and hung out at the Door County Symposium Booth

Up closer to the doors it gets harder to move around. . . this is about 20 minutes before the doors open.

Valley brought a couple black boats along this year.
They really stand out in a sport that is going color and sparkle crazy this year.

Hurricane Kayaks brought to you by skittles! In the photos they are a bit dark. In real life, Yikes!
lime green, hot pink, hunting gear orange!

Already swamped an hour into the show, you had to remind this guy to smile!!!
