Running To Stand Still

And so she woke up / Woke up from where she was / Lying still
Said I gotta do something /About where we’re going

Given Up The Drink

And I like pints of Guinness / As Billy used to say
It rained so fucking much here / That well drink away the day

In May of 2011 Harry Whelan, Chris Millington and Jeff Allen will be aiming to beat the record for the fastest 1,000 mile circumnavigation of Ireland which now sits at 33 days. According to their website, the reason for taking aim at the record is to get around and back before giving in to the temptation of the Guinness after having “sort of” given up the drink recently. (Um, yeah.. no comment..) Not everyone knows what kayaks they’ll be paddling yet, but it sounds like most will be opting for Rockpool’s new Taran. 15 kayakers missing in Greenland, Now Found
A shot of the West Greenland Fjords I took a couple years ago during a fly over..
Reports were going out this morning of 15 kayakers that became lost in a storm along the coast of Eastern Greenland today. About an hour ago reports came through that they have been all found safe and sound. Greenland is a very popular destination for paddlers and adventurers for exactly the same reason it can be so dangerous.. It’s big, cold, storms can come out of nowhere, and often help is just not all that swift in coming. Obviously everyone in the paddling community will be happy to hear every one came out of this one ok!

Marcus Demuth, Windscreen.

sometimes you’re the windshield / sometimes you’re the bug
sometimes it all comes together baby / sometimes you’re a fool in love
sometimes you’re the louisville slugger / sometimes you’re the ball
sometimes it all comes together baby… – Dire Straits
I‘ve written about Marcus Demuth before. More than many expedition paddlers out there he’s had his share of ups and downs. Yet no matter what happens, it seems he’s right there ready to give things another go as well. So even though he kept things a bit quiet this time around, he still went out and did something few people have ever done. He paddled solo around Great Britain. Continue reading

Look at your children / See their faces in golden rays
Don’t kid yourself they belong to you / They’re the start of a coming race
The earth is a bitch / We’ve finished our news / Homosapiens have outgrown their use
All the strangers came today / And it looks as though they’re here to stay

If you’ve been following along you’ll know that paddlers Justine Curgenven & Barry Shaw have had to take a few days of RR from their attempt to circumnavigate Tierra del Fuego on the southern tip of South America. The reason? Barry has been suffering some painful tendinitis due to overly tight drysuit seals around his wrists. Now I can guess that “off-the-grid” they’ve received all sorts of advice from the folks who made Barry’s drysuit. I also think they got a little covert commentary from a rep or two. Now what I was wondering was, that with all the emphasis on social media these days, wouldn’t you think various reps or manufacturers would have jumped in and offered some thoughts and ideas on their blog or Facebook as well?
