Hello out there…
Here’s a video called, “How to do a “T” Rescue While Kayaking”… Yup, it’s one way and we all have our variations and preferences. However, it seems to me that the old idea of sending the paddler who’s in the water to the tail of their kayak to “push down” and assist the rescuer is simply a bad idea. In my myopic little world I thought that bit had passed the way of the Dodo. Here’s why…
Terra Antarctica
I can hear chants and incantations
And some guy is mentioning me in his prayers
Well, I don’t know what it is
But there’s definitely something going on upstairs
– nick cave
I’m not sure why, but I was thinking of ICBMs. The idea that we can sit on one side of the earth and wipe out the other side with little more than the press of a button. In a way Antarctica is under assault from over the horizon. While we at home debate whether a cool summer says anything about global warming, it’s raining on the Antarctic Peninsula. In the often elusive battle of climate change, the earth’s poles are undoubtedly ground zero. Terra Antarctica examines the tell-tale silhouettes burned into the ice. And that’s just one part of the story…
Double D Video
Ok, so this is a video from Immersion Research showing you how easily you can put on one of their Double “D” Drysuits. The truly valuable bit is when he demonstrates how to zip it up.. or over as the case may be. I wish I could get that proficient and flexible! Oh well. In case your wondering, the Double “D” from IR is listed on their website at $830. What’s more, in addtion to Gunmetal Gray it also comes in the official color of kayak gear, “Mango”.

Eastern Horizons in Perspective

Bryan Smith & Lise-Anne Beyries’ new Eastern Horizons Sea Kayaking DVD is a slick, beautifully put together portrayal of the sea kayaking life along the east coast of North America. Eastern Horizons will inspire paddlers to rush outside to load their boat on the car the second the credits roll. The fact is, the only people who will find any fault in Eastern Horizons are those in the “business” or those of us who’ve simply been around too long.
Ask Bryan Smith Something…

I’m pleased to once again have a chance to chat with Bryan Smith about his up-coming visit to Canoecopia this weekend and the forthcoming release of his new DVD, “Eastern Horizons”. Canoecopia is the king of paddling tradeshows and those of us here in the midwest are lucky to have the opportunity to see all the latest gear, talk to the vendors, and see more presentations by well-known padders than you can actually make time for in just one weekend. Thanks to Bryan for always finding time to answer my silly questions. . . Continue reading
multidisiplinary coaching with hadas
The thing about coaching is that great coaches have to be multi-disciplined. (Just ask the BCU) Now Hadas takes it to a whole new level by offering straight up advice for those who have loved and lost. I wonder if she will start a column? Anyway head on over to Steve’s blog to hear Hadas say, “The best way to get over a man is. . . .”
