My Weird Life

what goes on around home

Is it any wonder I’ve got too much time on my hands
It’s ticking away with my sanity – styx

Well, it just gets out of hand doesn’t it!?  One day you decide to buy a kayak because it’s something to do when you’re tired of sitting at your desk all day, or when all you’re other favorite pastimes have become.. well.. a bit stale.   Little did you know that it wouldn’t be long before your home would be filled with kayak junk.  Toys, books, DVDs, broken paddles used as decorations, mugs, posters, mukluk lamps, pictures.. and on it goes.  Every holiday for 10 years seems to add to your kayak related trinket collection… I didn’t even mention the worst of it yet did I?  Continue reading

2 Feet Short

Whatever floats your boat.. Well, this won’t do it!  It’s about 90f out there today and I still can’t catch a break.  By the looks of things I’m still about 2 feet short of a good time.  Oh well, back to work….

Ceasefire

Please, put down your guns, lower your weapons
Oh, I declare a change of heart – My Latest Novel

It’s all about content.  In our world these days it seems we all must write and record most everything we do.  There’s plenty of hay being made out there about our society’s social media addictions, some of it justified and some of it not.  For my part, social blabbery or as the pros say, “content creation”, is not simply (just…? only…?)an ego-driven addiction. It’s how I pay for groceries and put gas in the car.  The downside of all this technological craziness is that it’s hard to just put the camera down.  The world never sleeps.  Yesterday, for a couple of hours at least, I declared a ceasefire… Continue reading

Was that a parable, or a very subtle joke?

I’m sorry, but there will be no blog today.  I’m am being held against my will at a secret U.S. Army base somewhere deep in America’s heartland.  One moment I was driving down a broken and overgrown road, and the next I was being dragged from my car through a field and into an ragged forest.  If my captors ever allow me to leave I will be back to blogging as usual.  I have no reason to believe they will do that however… For now I only have time to post these music videos in recognition of tomorrow’s great event.. (Which by the way, is my number 1 plan of escape…)  Continue reading

Sidetracked In Black

And if the night runs over / And if the day won’t last
And if your way should falter / Along this stony pass
It’s just a moment
This time will pass – u2

Today was the day I was going to tell you all about properly wearing and testing dry gear… but then I got distracted.  I had my skin boat out anyway, (The one that’s for sale actually) so I decided to get all the new leather deck lines installed.  That was a good idea, (I’d been putting it off since last spring.) but then I got distracted. I realized that I still needed to give the canvas another coat of paint.  Having originally been painted white, a bit of missing black paint shows right through.  Thankfully it only takes a can of black exterior paint and brush to give it a quick retouch whenever I like.  Continue reading

Mega Squid Versus The Giant Lake Stugeon

Now somehow (That I can’t even begin to explain!) this story weaves its way from Australia on to Charleston, South Carolina and through the mind of Moulton Avery, before landing on the blog of Helen Wilson before totally spinning out of control and landing here. Here at Quixotica, where I dare Moulton to bring his evil Humbolt Squid with their tentacles, barb-wire type hooks, and fearsome parrot-like beaks to battle my genetically modified, radioactive & radio controlled Giant Lake sturgeon.  I’ll soon have those squid sorted!

If all of this has a sort of Mystery Science Theatre feel about it, well it should. Because I think a lot of people spent the frozen winter months watching movies like Mega Shark Versus The Giant Octopus & the amazing sequel, Mega Shark Versus Crocosaurus.  Kayaker types mainly. All I can say is that the careers of Lorenzo Lamas & Debbie Gibson has taken an amazing turn in recent years.  Chances are they will be seen in This Is The Sea 5 battling various rubber suited monsters from the cockpits of a fully armed Tahe Marines. If William Shatner is any guide, these 2 will soon be up for the ACTRA Montreal Award of Excellence within a year and on their way to Emmys.

Now you have to admit, this scene from MSVGO is better than anything Cecil B. DeMille could have pulled off in his wildest dreams…

Yeah, that’s the way we do it downtown!

The Good Fight

Jesus if I had to quit tonight / I’d never know if I was wrong or right
But that’s just what you get / You gotta go the distance
If you’re gonna fight a good fight,
Keep it up & keep a good fight – buffett

Today I jumped on the scales again. It’s a Saturday morning ritual. Well, actually it’s a daily, and sometimes many-times-daily ritual. Saturday though, is “THE” day.  It’s the day I actually write down the result in the bottom right hand corner of the Saturday box on my big dining room calendar.  Sure, anyone can see it, but more importantly it’s there for me to see.  It’s there to remind me why one malted Easter egg an hour before bed is almost better than, well, you know.. Continue reading
