Earth Slide

The falling leaves drift by the window
The autumn leaves of red and gold….
I see your lips, the summer kisses
The sunburned hands, I used to hold

Sorry for disappearing. Well, I’ve not actually disappeared, in fact I was probably walking along the shores of this lost little lake. Maybe I was taking pictures of a caged lion or hiking through the dark woods of my local park under the glow of a harvest moon. Maybe I was nursing what seems to be a little stress fracture on my foot , while watching the local team get taken to school. Maybe I was working on a website. My work list recently has been growing exponentially. Maybe I was sitting right here being amazed by how well my move from Windows XP to Windows 7 actually was going. The techies will appreciate that most all of my shareware, emulators, and other old or odd software worked. Quickbooks 2000 didn’t… But whatever I’ve been doing, I’ve not been kayaking recently. That will change of course. In life we wear many costumes. The difference between love & obsession is in the pauses we take. For the moment I’ve simply paused to watch the earth slide into the oncoming deep freeze from the vantage point of dry shoes.

When I started my business in 1996 I really had no idea what I was doing. I was just asked to build websites for a couple folks who heard I knew how. Well, sort of. I mean I bought a cheap Packard Bell computer at Wal-Mart because even though we were very poor then, I didn’t want my kids to fall behind the future that I thought was coming. Of course what I ended up using that first computer for was drawing pictures, editing photographs and generally learning to make things. Along the way, I learned HTML, later Flash, and so on… Over a dozen years later I’m still just doing whatever I do. Only now am I really starting to see a theme. At 44 it’s about time, eh!?
Twittering Down The Wisconsin

This should be fun… cold… and wet…. Beginning tomorrow morning and through the weekend Mary and I will be taking our first paddling trip down the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway. Our goal is simply to enjoy the trip and see how far we can travel in the 2.5 days we have. The route is about 85 miles in total but Mary has never spent so much time in a kayak… so well see how it goes! Along the way we’ll be Twittering away and posting pics through DevilsLakeWisconsin.com and my Wisconsin Travel twitter called “BluffNotes”. You are more than welcome to follow along if you like while we spend a couple days promoting our area! Just go here (to the blog) or click here to follow Bluffnotes if you like…

So tomorrow I hop back in my kayak to paddle the Upper Dells of the Wisconsin River along with a group from Rutabaga. Well, that is if the new Jeep starts. It seems to be having one of those battery/alternator/starter issues that simply leave you confused and going nowhere fast. Story of my life! Right now it’s at the mechanics. She’ll hook up the computer and like roulette wheel on a Mississippi River Boat Casino, it will tell me which of the 3 options I’ve selected to experience. It can’t be the battery as I’ve already made that purchase. However if my little wheel of misfortune does happen to land on “Battery”, it will be met with a long list of expletives loosely translated as, “Spin Again!”…

So a friend noticed by new black Kokatat MSFit.. I actually left it in the box for a few days before I opened it. I’m giddy as an 8 year old over it and so thankful Kokatat could make it happen. Ah, now the thing is who do I refer people to who want a black MSfit of their own? Sorry, but you knew that was gonna happen! (What with slippery slopes and all that…)
Valley Goes Back To the.. Well,

Here’s what you’ll see if you visit Valley Sea Kayaks today. This is their website circa 2005 or so. If you search Valley Sea Kayaks on Google you’ll see : “Parallels H-Sphere Account has been suspended Account suspended. Account for domain valleyseakayaks.com has been suspended…” Now, this happens on the web. A server goes down, a host goes under, a payment is missed… whatever. Heck you can even lose your fancy new website and have to put up the old one until you can get all the back end stuff up again. If it were me, I’d put up a fresh little notice that something’s going on. Otherwise someone with a fragile mind might log in to buy a kayak and suddenly think they’ve slipped back in time.. Now you would’nt want the repercussions of that on your head would you? What did an Anas Acuta cost in 2005?

As the people here grow colder / I turn to my computer / And spend my evenings with it / Like a friend.
I was loading a new programme / I had ordered from a magazine: / Are you lonely, are you lost? / This voice console is a must.

I keep saying I’m going to get this review done, but then I find myself getting dragged away to do something else. That happens sometimes. It’s life. Sometimes I find myself simply thinking about so many other things that it’s hard to focus on the stuff I should be thinking about. That’s life too. In that regard I don’t think I’ve changed since elementary school. It seems my attention is often captured by something going on outside the window… Wait.. Did I use the word “I” again? It must be another case of rampant narcissism.. That’s life too as it happens.
