Great Lakes Sea Kayak Symposium Gallery

I’ve just uploaded my 2011 Great Lakes Sea Kayak Symposium Gallery. It includes pictures of loons…. and Ben Lawry… In case you missed it, you can also click here for another 70-some photos from the 2010 event as well. Each gallery is a mix of people, kayaks, nature & just stuff from around the Grand Marais & Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore region. Not enough? OK, here’s another gallery from the area including the Grand Sable Dunes.

Arrived!

I popped out of the tent early this morning to watch the sun rise one last time over Lake Michigan before we drove the rest of the way across the UP up to Grand Marais for the sea kayak symposium on the shore of Lake Superior. As with most sunrises, I wasn’t disappointed. Watching a sunrise is a sure sign you survived to live another day. If you get to watch the sun rise over open water.. It’s probably going to be a great day. Continue reading

When the love runs high
In this time, give it to me easy
And let me try
With pleasured hands

Here in the Midwest there is a clear border between winter and “the season”. The season is that short window of time where we get to run out the doors like freaks and get our Ya-Ya’s out before we have to once again lock ourselves in out of the cold for another 4 or 5 months. Oh boy! Continue reading
Lightning, It’s so “Very”!

I was caught in the suction
By a face like a truncheon
I was down upon one knee
Stroking her vanity – e. costello
We’re back from the symposium at Door County here in Wisconsin. We’ve only got a couple days of “down time” before we head back up to Grand Marais, MI for the Great Lakes Sea Kayak Symposium. For the moment let me just share a few pictures of the best kayak art work I saw at Door. This Valley Anas Acuta was at it’s base black or very, very, very dark blue with lots of purple and red glitter. Lightning stripes were inlaid into the gelcoat. I could be a fussy pain in the bum and critique the detailing but all in all this is a darn pretty boat! Continue reading
