Swimmer’s Ear (Again)
Hey! Don’t come around here no more
Don’t come around here no more
Whatever you’re looking for
Hey! Don’t come around here no more

Sorry I’ve disappeared for a couple days. I’ve been in the bowels of hell fighting a just battle against a hoard of demons… or put another way.. I have swimmers ear again. I can’t even begin to describe the amount of pain I’ve been enjoying. For 3 days now I’ve been up most nights and caught only winks of sleep during the day. To make matters worse, when the doc called in the prescription our insurance company decided they didn’t like the meds and required a new one (neomycin).. (or I could pay over $100.00 out of pocket for the Ciprodex). That delay meant another day until I finally got meds.. Joy.. Continue reading
Amy’s Roll
This is Amy rolling her kayak in Milwaukee a couple weeks back. Amy is a fantastic kayak coach, photographer and owner of Climer Consulting in Madison, WI. I have absolutely nothing to add, other than it’s a rainy day here in cheeseland and I’ve got to get on the road to take my son to visit the doc. So.. well, enjoy Amy’s roll.
Dog & Butterfly
See the dog and butterfly. Up in the
Air he like to fly.” Dog and butterfly
Below she had to try. She roll back down
To the warm soft ground laughing
She don’t know why

Canoecopia saw about a 15% increase in visitors since last year. The estimate I saw was around 24,000 folks came to shop. Nice. Sunday afternoon after the place started to quiet down, Steve Scherrer and I had a relaxing rolling demo over in the Clarion Hotel’s pool. It was a good time. Steve has a special skill in explaining and demonstrating the physics of how a boat moves in the water. I on the other hand find my path to kayak rolling in the Metaphysical. Together we do a good job covering all the bases.
I finally got around to posting a gallery of 2010 Canoecopia pics on Flickr.. There’s also a “Best of” from 2005-2009 gallery as well.
Getting Ready

Before the day I met you, life was so unkind
But you’re the key to my peace of mind

You know how it is of course. Time keeps sliding past while your busy with other pursuits. Well, sometimes you’ve got to focus. Canoecopia, the largest paddlesports show in the country kicks off in 9 days and I need to be there. In addition to my regular duties, I, along with Steve Scherrer am giving a rolling demo on Sunday afternoon. Now, the thing is.. I always get pinned as the “Greenland” guy here in this part of the state. That’s not really my thing though. I love rolling. But I’m not all that talented. I’ve spent years learning to roll primarily because I was never a good swimmer. Continue reading
Broken Rolls

It’s hard for me to practice anything. On the other hand, if I can find a way to play.. then I’ll practice all day. Take rolling for instance. If you look at the picture above you’ll see me rolling my kayak at the local pool (btw they now charge me $5 additional dollars for my kayak claiming a sudden surge in the popularity of pool paddling!). Now if you look a bit closer you’ll see that the blade is actually detached from the paddle shaft. Rolling is OK, but rolling with a jumble of broken paddle bits is much more fun.
We’re about a week out from Canoecopia.. Maybe I’ll get a chance to talk to you a bit more about rolling soon…
Life’s Important Questions
From a dead beat to an old greaser, here’s thinking of you.

Ok, so I turn 44 in a few days. I’ve not rolled much since winter. So with air temperatures hovering at 102f according to my car and two banks I went out to Devil’s Lake to cool off and to just check in with my inner kayaker. Continue reading
Then Jesus Said, . .

If you know how to roll, you don’t have to swim.
If you know how to brace, you don’t have to roll.
If you know how to edge, you don’t have to brace.
If you can walk on water, you don’t have to edge.
I lifted this off a Pnet Post debating rolling (again) . . .
