Paddling A Thin Line

This is major Tom to ground control, I’m stepping through the door
And I’m floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today
Here am I floatin’ ’round my tin can far above the world
Planet Earth is blue and there’s nothing I can do – bowie

I was flipping through a copy of CanoeRoots Magazine a few days back and I came across this Old Town Canoes & Kayaks ad.  Actually, I’ve scanned over it a few times.  Something was buzzing away in the back of my crazy mind, but it wasn’t until this morning when it finally came into focus.  The ad shows dad (?) and daughter canoeing.  Above it says, ” Your stock as a parent just skyrocketed.  In an age of electronic gadgetry and instant-connectedness, it’s the real moments you spend with your kids that make a lasting connection.  Like your outings in…” and it goes on to sell the product.  Later it continues, “…Back on shore, It’s a return to nonstop texting and emailing, but for now, it’s just the two of  you creating endless memories.” O.K.  I get that.  Now let’s look at the bottom of the ad…  Continue reading

Technology in the Land of The Snark

As the people here grow colder / I turn to my computer / And spend my evenings with it / Like a friend.
I was loading a new programme / I had ordered from a magazine: / Are you lonely, are you lost? / This voice console is a must.
I press Execute.

I keep saying I’m going to get this review done, but then I find myself getting dragged away to do something else. That happens sometimes. It’s life. Sometimes I find myself simply thinking about so many other things that it’s hard to focus on the stuff I should be thinking about. That’s life too. In that regard I don’t think I’ve changed since elementary school. It seems my attention is often captured by something going on outside the window… Wait.. Did I use the word “I” again? It must be another case of rampant narcissism.. That’s life too as it happens.

Well, who are you? / I really wanna know
Tell me, who are you? / ‘Cause I really wanna know
– who

Here’s a kayak I’d never seen before.  Check out that hull shape. It’s a “Sun” which apparently is or was a Riot Kayak at one time.  Other than that there is really not much information within the grip of Google’s long bony fingers.

The last few days I’ve been tucked in around home working on a few various projects including an update of my busy website, DevilsLakeWisconsin.com which has in the range of 200,000 visitors a month during the peak summer season and slims down to a mere 60,000 or so in the winter months.   The Devil’s Lake website is a perfect combination of business, life & pleasure as it helps me pay for groceries, Continue reading

Quixing on Twitter

twittersnap

Frankly I had to stare at twitter for a few days…weeks…months… before I could figure out what to do with it.  Twitter in some ways is blogging for the ADHD generation.  Note that generations are now about 3 years apart!  But then I realized there were lots of little tidbits that I never mention simply because they are not worth writting a long blog about like, say. . . “What’s REALLY up with RIOT?” or who won the Popular Mechanics Tape test. . (Not Duct Tape!) or to post basic paddling tips or even to randomly riff on a line from the “Walrus and the Carpenter”.   Anyway, I’m quixing on Twitter now.  Ignore or follow however which way you wish. Latest “tweets” and blog posts are always right on the homepage of the site.

twitterpated?

Alright, so this is totally “OT” but it makes me giggle.  Did you know if you type “YT?” you’re cool, but if you type “OMG!” you’re trying too hard?  ROTFLAMO! – Read on. .
