We've only got a couple days of "down time" before we head back up to Grand Marais, MI for the Great Lakes Sea Kayak Symposium. For the moment let me just share a few pictures of the best kayak art work I saw at Door. This Valley Anas Acuta was at it's base black or very, very, very dark blue with lots of purple and red glitter. Lightning stripes were inlaid into the gelcoat. I could be a fussy pain in the bum and critique the detailing but all in all this is a darn pretty boat!

So they started cutting brands. First on the block was Pontiac. Pontiac was meant to be the more sporty, muscle bound GM. Pontiac was for adults who had to take kids to ballet but didn't want to totally go "middle age". I loved Pontiac myself. In fact and still own a Grand Prix. GM is also talking about chopping or selling off Saturn and Hummer as well. So that got me thinking. In these tough times what if our favorite kayak companies had to cut back?

Their plan was to take a fresh look at a way of doing things that had not changed much over the years and see what happens if they actually just re-engineered the whole lot. The goal was to get most of the kinking points out of the system, make it easily serviceable, and make the hardware fit into both composite and roto-molded boats. It's certainly a good idea to give it another go over.

Bryan is a P&H team paddler and is published quite often in Sea Kayaker Magazine. He began his paddling adventures way back when the "Gales of November" was something of a Nordic myth. Brian paddled the Aleutian Islands with Stan Chladek, traveled to Mecca. . ah, I mean Wales, and most importantly as he stands at the right hand of the singular being we call Kelly Blades. (you thought I was going to say Sean Morely didn't you!!)
